The Cursed Banyan Tree

The village of Jotpur was known for its serene charm, nestled amidst lush greenery and the echoes of rural life. Yet, it harbored a sinister secret—the haunted banyan tree by the old temple. Villagers warned travelers never to linger near it after dusk.

Legend spoke of a woman named Leela who had lived there decades ago. She was accused of practicing dark rituals, and when the crops failed one year, the villagers blamed her. They dragged her to the banyan tree, where she was cruelly punished and left to die. Leela’s dying curse was that no one would prosper as long as the tree stood.

From then on, eerie events plagued Jotpur. People reported hearing whispers from the tree at night, calling them by name. Some claimed to see shadows dancing around its roots, even in the absence of light. Livestock mysteriously disappeared, and fields remained barren despite the villagers' best efforts.

One moonless night, a brave traveler named Arjun decided to confront the myth. Armed with his lantern and resolve, he approached the tree. As he stood beneath its gnarled branches, the whispers grew louder, morphing into guttural cries. He stumbled backward, his lantern flickering and finally extinguished. The next morning, the villagers found Arjun’s belongings by the tree, but he had vanished without a trace.

The banyan tree still stands today, its roots digging into Jotpur’s soil like claws gripping its victims. Locals swear it pulses with malevolent energy, and even the bravest avoid it. Some say Leela’s spirit lingers there, bound to her cursed resting place.
